After watching my episode of Secret Millionaire, I learned that reality-TV is all about post production. Even though the emotions and stories are all real – editing makes everything come to life. Nevertheless, here are some missing parts that never made the episode:

•    The obvious shock, the show advertises that a millionaire will donate at least $100,000 of their money. I ended up gifting well over $100,000 – but the way editing was done – it made it seem I only gifted $90,000.

•    Due to privacy issues (which I completely understand), one of the additional recipients that I gifted was completely edited out.

•    St. Anthony’s is also a place where a lot of people go when they are trying to get their lives back on track. Even getting a job these days is all about getting on the Internet. So, I donated a new computer lab to St. Anthony’s.

•    I was deeply touched by the kids that lived at Raphael House. So, I started a “birthday fund” so at the very least, they get a birthday gift on their special day.

•    In the final part of the show – the millionaires go back into the community to follow up on the recipients that they gifted. That also did not make the final cut.

I know a part of making this show – is to keep it entertaining. So, there were certain scenes that were also edited in to add humor. I got a laugh out of them myself. I never actually said BAM four times in a row or said “grocery shopping – it’s not that easy.”

Nevertheless, my heart was always in the right place when I did Secret Millionaire. I’m proud of what I was able to do and blessed that God gave me the opportunity to start giving back at a young age. I’ve also continued to support St. Anthony’s and Raphael House throughout this year.

And, I’m sure philanthropy wise; this is only the beginning for me.

For those of that missed the episode you can catch it locally on Chahal.com or Hulu.com.

You make us proud man. What you did on SM was wonderful. Your show was very touching and more so you seemed very real and down to earth. It is nice to know that you have kept in touch with both those charities. Thanks for the inspiration

    G,

I’ve been homeless and when I saw this show I cried as it brought back memories. Thanks for clarifying your position, but TV will always be TV. It is so sad, FOX had to edit your genuine gifts to fit their ratings. I am 49, G, and I commend you for what you have done. At one point in my life, I was one of those people pictured as homeless. I had no place to live, no home, or any hope. To see you you walk in the shelters and hand people check on TV, who are in that state of mind, can’t ever be described or measured. You are a HEAVEN’s sent. May God always bless you.

  3. Bulent Says:

    That’s reality TV for ya!

You did good though. It was great watching the show.

  4. Frank Says:

I enjoyed the scene where they did a compare and contrast of BAM! vs. WOW!

    Ain’t life grand… hehe.

  5. Carla Says:

Anyone with any kind of smarts totally understands that all shows like that are completely edited.
The fact that there was no followup was surprising to me, I wonder why they edited it out?
Perhaps they will have a “reunion” type show at the end of the season where all of the “millionaires” go back and check up on the recipients.

I think everything you’ve done and continue to do is very generous.
I think charitable giving and volunteer work is exceptionally important, whether you make $30,000 a year or $3,000,000 a year.
Even with regular giving, I still feel like there’s so much more I could do.

Anyhow, keep up the good work!

  6. Daisy F Says:

I am disappointed that FOX didn’t show more of what went on for seven days. I would have loved to see the follow up visit as well. However, you were great. Giving $100,000 of your hard earned money, at your age to total strangers is commendable. God Bless you for spreading kindness.

  7. AJ Says:

First of all, excellent book..finished in one sitting. Show was also great, I was in tears watching when you were talking to your sister and then Kuwana as well. You have a big heart and the honesty in you was quite evident. Thank you for doing what you did.

  8. Tina Skaggs Says:

I just want to say , You are wonderfull… May God Bless and Keep you always.

  9. Jessica M Says:

I really wish more of it was shown of your 7 day journey. The birthday club for the kids is awesome, you will put priceless smiles on those kids faces. May the Lord continue to bless you for feeding the homeless, giving hope to women at the shelter and being a positive role model for all of us.

  10. Mandeep Banga Says:

We all know what the media is capable of …they always have to pick and choose certain things to air. Though, I am very pleased you have clarified the missing scenes from your SM segment. Not only do you let the public know how they tweaked some of your scenes but you always make an effort to break down what is wholesome and real. That’s exactly what makes you such a good person. I feel proud to say that you are a fellow Sikh who has grown up in the SJ area like I have. That pushes me even more to believe in my dreams. Thank you for being such an inspiration I admire you greatly for your stance on life. I hope to see you tonight at the book signing in MV.

  11. Kenzi Says:

I wondering about that : ) Our whole family gathered around the TV to watch the show… We added as you gave out the money “$35,000 another $35,000 ok, thats $60,000 plus $10,000″ So we are all like “Ok he going to give that last girl $20,000 nope only $10,000″ “BAM” Its over only $90,000? I figured it was all in the editing… I just had to narrate that :)

IT WAS A GREAT SHOW!! I wish i could of seen it all…

  12. Reetu Bansal Says:

Your story is very very inspiring and what you did for each of those individuals was very touching ! Keep up with the good work! :-)

  13. R Says:

Thanks for the explanation. I figured there was alot more that happened that just couldn’t be shown in such a short period of time. Congrats on your success and never forget where you came.

  14. William Kasel Says:

G, I live in San Francisco – i have a web startup, and i grew up in a similar background as you. My single mother raised me while working 2 or 3 jobs. I have been very blessed in my life, and Im only 20 – i have many years to go. I cant wait until im at the point where I can do what you did. I help as much as I can now, but not to the extent you did. God bless you, and take care.

  15. Chris Says:

I watched your episode of Secret Millionaire and really loved. I’ve actually helped serve meals in the Tenderloin, so seeing you there and helping people there really touched me. I’m afraid I assumed the worst when I added up the amounts and only got to $90,000. I thought, “How can a guy who seemed so touched give less than the goal, especially when it seems he has so much?” I shouldn’t expect much from media, especialy when I got my degree in it, but I guess I expected that if they had so explicitly set a goal of $100,000 they would explain why it wasn’t met. I hope they do a wrap-up episode that will explain what happened, so no one else thinks ill of a man who’s done so much good.

  16. Wayne Says:

    bam

  17. M Says:

LOL, I figured there was a logical explanation for the gift figure. That is how I ended up here after some fruitless searching. There is always more to the story. Also I was hoping they had filmed a follow up as it seemed logical and you have cleared that up as well, so thanks for that bonus info. Starting a blog to clarify these things was a cool idea. I expect (hope) they will air the follow ups later on so we can all check in on these folks. Very inspiring and emotional show which alway serves to remind me that true happiness does not come from material wealth.

  18. R Roberts Says:

    Hi G

Thank you so much for your inspiration. I bought your book and when I started to read it realized that I couldn’t put it down. It was riveting to me as I too have a similar background to you and have been trying to live my dream, rather complete my dream.

However, Im not the typical internet entepreneur, eCommerce dreamchaser. I am a 42year old black Southern African woman who has had this vision of running my own successful internet company. I have the idea, a good one and a niche that has been undiscovered and have been trying to get it off the ground but keep having some roadblocks. Its been four years in the making.

Im working full time as a nurse as well. After reading your book I realized that nothing was impossible. Please, could you take a look at my website and tell me if it is a good idea to persue and offer any advise as how I could take it further and make things happen. Its not active on the Search Engines as yet.

Once again G, thanks for all that you have done for everyone and most importantly your family. You helped put business minorites in a better light.

    God Bless

    Roffin

  19. Kim Rodriguez Says:

I enjoyed your episode of Secret Millionaire. Your experience there seemed to touch you deeply and change your life. I had seen you on an episode of the youngest millionaires on another show, and its hard not to think that the people on those shows are just living life without thinking about others. It was good to see that you are living your life on a higher frequency. I’m glad that wasn’t a one-time thing or a publiciy stunt for you, but a profound experience.

  20. Dr. Ian T Ragoonanan Says:

I have just completed your book “THE DREAM”@507am on 12/19/08. I started about 6pm on 12/18/08. Unbelievable!!! Like yourself I have realized the infinite potential of the INTERNET/E-COMMERCE. As a result, I became part of this baby company that was born here in Florida called http://www.shoptoearth.net/ianrag– That site is actually a shopping portal to the world wide web with an emphasis on our environment & the green revolution. It has been an incredible journey thus far & it all came together on page 225 of your book and I quote what you stated ” I began to think about online sales and about creating a Web site that would function as a portal to a new king of shopping experience” That’s when I realized that my portal is part of an industry that offers unlimited potential for those who are willing to work hard, persevere and never give up. As a migrant myself I can identify with your story. I got my doctorate in Pharmacy in 2002 but all that was the preparation of the journey I am now about to embark on and I can feel it in my GUT. Finishing your book this AM was just a culmination of my own dream coming full circle. I sincerely invite you to visit my website—www.shoptoearth.net/ianrag —scroll down click on my photo that will bring you to a second page where you CLICK on overview. That is where you will have access to a 7 minute video that ever since has been transforming my life-the IDEA IS GENIUS. I would greatly appreciate your opinion because ultimately I would like to donate websites to your charities that you became involved with on “secret millionaire”. Mr. G. you a a brillant man and I have no doubt that your will concur with this genius business opportunity. I sincerely thank you for your time and I know I will be hearing from you soon. God Bless

  21. Stilldawn Says:

I was watching the show and of course I added up the amount you gifted, not so much to make sure you gave enough but its just a tick of mine, I see numbers and my head just adds. Anyways, yeah I noticed it was only 90k and didnt get all bent out of shape about it. Figuring it was probably just editing on Fox’s side. Which is dumb and personally I believe slanderous to you. They should of atleast gave a disclaimer at the end. What DID tick me off was I had watched it on HULU, after the show I read some of the comments, and people were just plain mean and hostile about it. I mean come on, besides the obviousness that you would never go on the show and not give the minimum you agreed to because that would just be foolish. But atleast you CARED enough to even give 10 dollars!!!! I kept thinking how many of these people complaining have ever given anything to anyone else just for the sake of giving? Probably very few. You dont have to be a millionaire to make a difference! Just be willing to give something of yourself to another human being. Be it time, food, clothes, shelter, money or even just an ear to bend. We are such a self involved narcissistic nation.

Let me end with this, if you find yourself unable to give any of the aforementioned things to another, you can give something that will cost you no time, no effort and no money but will make a huge difference in many lives! Give a smile to a stranger. I am a firm believer that positivity and negativity spread like cancer, you smile at someone…. even if they think you are crazy, it will change their day, they will find it a little better, a little easier to handle. Yet the same holds true with anger and hate, you scowl, curse, yell, anything at one person and it will spread just as fast. We effect more people than we know everyday with just the energy we put out there, so make sure its good!

  22. Carolyn Wells Says:

I worked at Saint Anthony’s as a volunteer yesterday and they very proudly told us about your computer lab donation and that you had been there working on it yesterday. I think it is great that you are continuing to be involved with St. Anthony’s! They are a great organization.

  23. AT Says:

I found out about the show (and you) via SFist, who I felt gave you an unfair shake. I do think the idea of the tv show is kind of exploitative — it’s all very “Rich people see what poor people go through, for entertainment value!” — but giving money to a good cause, particularly during the recession, is a good thing.

My question to you, and I don’t mean this in an antagonistic way, is this: Had you never been in the TL before? I take the bus through it every day, and it’s pretty much impossible not to see the suffering. Was this the first time you’d experienced this part of the city?

  24. Christine K. Chang Says:

I just watched the show on hulu.com. Reading your comments made things more awesome! I’m glad you shared this information with us. I pray that much fruit will come out of this and that the blessings will be multiplied.
    God bless!

  25. TW Says:

Glad to hear that you’re “grocery shopping” comment was fabri-edited. That sounded pretty ridiculous for a entrepreneur who grew up poor.

If you are interested in other soup kitchens of course there is Glide Memorial also in the TL. One that I personally think do a great service and never advertises itself is done by the “Missionaries of Charity.” They serve food and teach prayer (I personally am not religious) to homeless people that regularly come in. It is also in fact very close to where you live: the old fire house on 3rd st. and mission rock st. They are open everyday from 3:30pm-5:30pm except thursdays. They are especially in need of volunteers on weekdays. Merry Christmas Mr. Chahal. You.

  26. Tamaya Says:

Hey G just want to wish you very Merry Christmas! You really inpired and modivated me to think and move forward. I just want to wish you and your family a very HAPPY NEW YEARS! God bless

happy holidays “G” to you and yours, may god continue to bless you in all your endeavors.my comment is i am starting up a nonprofit organization.my organization is to provide leadership for the less fortune youth in the inner city of chicago.this nonprofit organization is very!!!very!!much in need, due to the large number of homicides among the youth in chicago.my question is how would i qualify to receive a donation from your company.i feel your donation will help save a child life,as well as to help to bring out their inner greatness.so therefore it would be greatly appreciated if you will concider making a donation.be blessed and have a prosperious new year!!

  28. Katie Says:

I was wondering about that, too. I knew there had to be something missing. But I was also curious about one other thing they seemed to leave out: near the beginning when they said someone knocked on the door at three in the morning. They never explained that! It just went on to other things and I was sitting there like “Hey! Wait a minute! What’s going on?” Haha.

But I loved your show. All the people you chose to give money seemed very deserving; I bet that feeling must have been the most wonderful feeling of all. Absolutely loved watching this. I, as well, wish I could have seen more!

  29. canadian fan Says:

I watched your appearance on the secret millionaire. It made me cry. Your generosity and kindness came through the screen. You have made a difference in those people’s lives and have inspired many more. I hope to see more of your inpirational works in the years to come.

Your story is inspiring – to have come so far so young. I can’t imagine the story you’ll have to share at 50!

  33. IFindDeadPeople Says:

Excellent show. Very touching. This is the first time that I ever saw SM and was touched by all the giving. I was once homeless and can understand what those ladies were going through. One day, I will be financially secure like you but until then I will volunteer in other ways. Thank you so very mcuh for your kindness.

  35. Rick Says:

Hi – I watched and enjoyed all of the 1st 6 USA episodes and really enjoyed all of them! I was Googling to see why no more were showing up in my PVR auto-search/scheduler – I hope more episodes are coming! At one point I was reading comments about the show and how you were so stingy but thankfully Wakipedia steered me to your Blog which more than cleared it up for me. Cudos to you for doing the show & this Blog and cudos to Google & Wakipedia for being such great InterNet resources.

  40. Yoika Says:

I just came across this show today (I’m sure by no accident), and wanted to share how touched I am. I could feel the pain as the people spoke of their past and struggles, and yet, hope was alive. From watching this show, I was reminded of the power of love and hope. I feel blessed for all that I have, and I agree with you G: there is no greater joy than to give in this world.

  41. AnnaMarie H. Janssen Says:

I would have loved to watch ur show, but unfortunately they do not stream the video up here to canda.

I do watch the original series. the BBC version and really enjoy it.

Makes me wonder though how we can get the video accross the pond but not the 49th parralell?

  42. Somebody out Belgium Says:

    You’re amazing hot G.

  43. Michelle Says:

I still think that the TV producers should have put up a screen at the end of the show which said “G donated X amount of dollars in total, but for privacy reasons…”.

  44. Carlos Says:

You’re hot, whether your a millionaire or not 8-)

  45. Parnesh Says:

I have never seen a person like you in my life. I tell my friends who sometimes joke about people wearing terbans and relegions. This will open there eyes that never under estimate a person or religion and to respect all the cultures. I am so proud of you and wish I could meet you. Me and my wife both cried and had goose bumps, when we saw the show on the TV. God bless you and you showed the whole world. This will leave a very good example for my kids and all the kids out there. I will try to share with all the people about this story. Way to go my friend and God is with you. Keep doing what you are doing. I Wish I could meet you. I kids also watched the show. We are so touched by this. I want to keep going here but I am short of words.

    God bless you. Take care.

  46. Parnesh Says:

I think you should make a movie about this not to win Academy Award, but to share and show the whole world. You already won a Acdamey Award from us. Sorry can’t take this out of my head still thinking about the show.
